Welcome
Our mission is to provide a safe and welcoming space for women to come together, honouring and promoting diversity, and to work for democratic, social and economic equality for women.
We have three main areas of service, which are Resources , Events and Programs , and Herstory .
What's New:
The Kamloops Women's Resource Group Society has published this book to honour and celebrate the work of twelve women in our community. Women have always been involved in the community, and it is important to document women's stories that make our community a better place to live. This book is available at the KWRGS office and at Second Glance Used Books located at 448 Victoria Street.
Womens World Congress takes place every three years. Started in 1985 the next congress is being hosted in Ottawa, Canada July 3 - 7, 2011. This will be the largest gathering of women from around the world in Canadian history. For more information please visit www.womensworlds.ca . The Kamloops Women's Resource Group Society's Knitting and Craft circle is a women's discussion group held on Tuesday evenings. We will be discussing issues facing women to
day and will be having some guest speakers/guest knitters to share their skills and stories.
Skill in crafting or knitting is not required!! Come and learn with us. We will have a small store of crafting materials that you may borrow from. Bring any project you are working on and come enjoy the company of other women. Tea and good times will be served.

KWRGS is collaborating on a new study to investigate the potential impacts of climate change and resultant disasters in the Interior of British Columbia (BC), specifically in rural communities and small cities of the Thompson Cariboo Shuswap-North Okanagan (TCS-NO) region.
The study will examine the ability of small cities and rural communities to respond and adapt to climate change and disasters by conducting exploratory qualitative research.
The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change defines climate change as "…a change of climate which is attributed directly or indirectly to human activity that alters the composition of the global atmosphere and which is in addition to natural climate variability observed over comparable time periods." Nationally and internationally, the frequency of natural disasters is increasing. According to the BC Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor
General, disasters are defined as "a calamity caused by accident, fire, explosion, or technical failure, or by the forces of nature that has resulted in serious harm to the health, safety or welfare of people , or in widespread damage to property." The cumulative effect of these disasters produces a significant personal, material and economic strain on individuals, communities and the fiscal capacity of all levels of governments.
This research project is funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) Research Development Initiatives program.
For more information about this study please contact Dr. Julie Drolet, Principal Researcher, at email: jdrolet@tru.ca
